The Department of Economics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has the capacity to host several excellent doctoral students per year. Students must have financial support from eligibile universities in their home country and want to work on research projects with members of the department’s faculty.
The Department of Economics has 18 tenure-track faculty members and about 40 doctoral students from all over the world. The department boasts an open, collaborative research setting, and its faculty is very research-active with particular strengths in environmental economics, industrial organization, international economics, and public finance. In addition, the department hosts the editorial office of the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization. During the past few years, doctoral students collaborating with department faculty have published papers in outlets including the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, the National Tax Journal, and the Southern Economic Journal.
Please note that this application is to come to the University of Tennessee for research only, and the student will not be able to take any courses for credit. Furthermore, there will be no stipend from the University of Tennessee.
To meet J-1 scholar visa requirements, students visiting the University of Tennessee must budget for a minimum of $1250 per month, plus an additional $600 per month for a spouse and $500 per month for each child.
